Muckhart Golf Club

Founded 1908 · Drumburn Road, Clackmannanshire · 27 Holes

Founded in 1908 when local minister the Rev. J. Edgar Cairns sought sporting facilities for the village, Muckhart was created on 55 acres of land donated by Miss Ella Christie of Cowden. The original nine holes were laid out by J. B. Wyles of Dollar and opened by Miss Christie on 28th May 1908.

The course was extended to 18 holes in 1970 and further to 27 holes in 1998, set against the magnificent backdrop of the Ochil Hills. It was a Muckhart member, Andrew Dougal, who founded the Ochil League in the mid-1950s, giving the club a special place in the league's heritage.

Alloa Golf Club

Founded 1891 · Schawpark, Sauchie · 18 Holes

Alloa Golf Club was instituted in 1891 at Arnsbrae, beginning as a nine-hole course on land inspected by professional Robert Tait of Musselburgh. By the mid-1930s the club had outgrown its original home and decisively relocated to Schawpark in 1935.

The current 6,200-yard course was laid out by James Braid — five-time Open Champion and founding President of the PGA — on the historic Schawpark estate, once seat of the Schaw family, governors of Stirling Castle until the reign of James IV. The mature tree-lined fairways and rolling parkland in the shadow of the Ochils make it a fine championship test.

Kinross Golf Club

Founded 1884 · Beeches Park, Kinross · Two 18-Hole Courses

Kinross Golf Club traces its origins to a meeting of twenty enthusiasts in 1884, with the Reverend Mr. David of St Paul's Church elected as the club's first captain. The original six-hole course was laid out alongside Loch Leven by Tom Morris, the great Open Champion of the 1860s.

The course was ploughed up during the Second World War, and a new nine holes were developed afterwards on land owned by Sir David Montgomery. The club today offers two contrasting 18-hole parkland courses — The Bruce and The Montgomery — both still owned by the Montgomery family, with breathtaking views over Loch Leven and the surrounding hills.

Milnathort Golf Club

Founded 1910 · South Street, Milnathort · 9 Holes

Established in 1910 on grounds donated to the village to encourage sport, Milnathort is a traditional village club widely regarded as one of the finest nine-hole courses in Scotland. The undulating parkland layout drains exceptionally well, and additional tees on several holes allow play as a full eighteen.

Distinguished by its lush fairways, immaculate greens and two double greens, the course has hosted numerous national events despite its modest length. Milnathort remains, in the truest sense, a community club — friendly, accessible, and beloved by those who know it.

Perth Artisans Golf Club

Founded 1879 · North Inch, Perth

Among the oldest clubs in the league, Perth Artisans was formed at a meeting in 1879 — originally a club for men who worked with their hands, with the celebrated St Andrews clubmaker Andrew Forgan numbered among its founders. The Artisans have played on Perth's historic North Inch ever since.

Their current clubhouse, situated behind the 2nd tee, was purchased in 1936 for the modest sum of £564. The North Inch has hosted golf since at least the 16th century, making the Artisans custodians of one of the oldest continuously-played golfing grounds in Scotland.

Murrayshall Golf Club

Founded 1981 · Scone, Perthshire · 27 Holes

The newest member of the league, Murrayshall's two golf courses were completed in 1981 within the 365-acre estate of Murrayshall House — a 1664 country mansion originally built by Sir Andrew Murray, son of the First Lord Balvaird. The Graham-Murray family lived in the house for 260 years.

The flagship Murrayshall Course, designed by J. Hamilton Stutt, plays through tree-lined fairways with several water hazards and overlooks the Vale of Strathmore. Together with its sister Lynedoch Course, it forms one of Perthshire's most established golf resorts, set within rolling parkland just north of Perth.

Crieff Golf Club

Founded 1891 · Ferntower, Perthshire · Ferntower & Dornock Courses

Crieff Golf Club was established in 1891 after Tom Morris, the legendary St Andrews professional, carved a nine-hole course from what was then East Ledbowie Park. Set at the "gateway to the Highlands", the club enjoys dramatic scenery overlooking the Strathearn Valley.

The present Ferntower championship course, opened for play in 1980, has hosted the Scottish Golf Union's Clubs' Championship, the Scottish Boys' Stroke Play Championship and the Perthshire County Championship. The course bears the imprint of golf's great architects — Old Tom Morris, James Braid, Robert Simpson and John Stark have all left their mark.

Dunning Golf Club

Founded 1906 · Rollo Park, Dunning · 9 Holes

Founded in 1906, Dunning has occupied three different locations over its history. The original nine-hole course at Kincladie Cow Park gave way to a second course at Mains of Pitcairns, which closed with the onset of the Second World War. The club's present home at Rollo Park was established in 1946.

Situated at the heart of the village beneath the slopes of the Ochil Hills, Dunning offers some of the most spectacular views in the league. The Dunning burn meanders through the parkland course, adding character to this Par 66, 4,894-yard layout — voted one of Scotland's "Top 9 Holers" by The Scotsman.

Dunblane New Golf Club

Founded 1923 · Perth Road, Dunblane · 18 Holes

Dunblane New Golf Club is "new" by reference to a nine-hole predecessor that adjoined the River Allan on what is today the Laighills Public Park, opened by the Hydropathic Hotel in 1892 with Old Tom Morris and Ben Sayers contesting the opening foursomes.

When that course fell into decline, the present 18-hole parkland course was laid out in 1922–23 by Major Cecil Hutchison (Amateur Champion) and James Braid. Undulating between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan, it is admired for its varied par 3s and expansive views toward the Southern Highlands.

Comrie Golf Club

Founded 1891 · Laggan Braes, Comrie · 9 Holes

Comrie was formed in March 1891 when a meeting of village gentlemen resolved to lay out a golf course on the Laggan Braes, a short walk from the centre of the village. The original layout was later refined by James Braid in the 1920s, and his design substantially endures today.

Widely regarded as one of the finest nine-hole courses in the United Kingdom, Comrie makes the most of its rolling topography to give each hole a wholly distinctive character — with superb views over the village and the surrounding Perthshire hills. Former Curtis Cup golfer Carly Booth and her brother Wallace both learned the game here.
